Rules of the Game
Years ago author Richard Templar was working as an assistant manager. A manager’s job came open and, because Templar was the most experienced candidate with the greatest expertise, most of the staff supported him for the opening. They saw Rob, his rival for the job, as inept. Templar asked an outside consultant to assess his chances.
Chrome os iso pc. 'Slim,' the consultant said frankly, explaining. 'You don’t walk like a manager.' Sure enough, although Rob was less qualified, he got the job. Templar had to admit that Rob walked like a manager. After that, Templar began to observe the unwritten rules of work studiously. He saw that managers did have a certain walk, and that they also had a managerial style of dressing and speaking. Some managers practiced the general manager’s walk, and some practiced the regional manager’s walk. Templar started practicing the general manager’s walk and in three months he was promoted over Rob to serve as general manager. The difference was that in addition to having the walk, Templar worked really hard to do his job well.
Rules exist in every workplace. Those who learn to use them to their advantage are called 'Rules Players..

I thought I will find new tips or rules in this book but I was wrong. Most of the rules I already know and aware of, but the author gives you the big picture and reminds you how good to follow the tips in an inspiring way. My babies are still under 1 year old, so definitely I will come to this book again in a year time. simply written. P.S. I read the Arabic translation which I would rate 1 or 2.

I LOVED this book. I think I dog eared and underlines on almost every other page. Much of the info is pretty basic..but such good reminders and 'oh yeah..' moments. Made me excited about the journey I am on as a parent. Very good read!! Recommened for all stages of parenting!

Helpful advice but abit overwhelming, I wanted to read about where to start if you've not followed 'the Rules' but didn't really tell me that - left feeling could be too late

My husband and I have been discussing when we want to start a family. At the moment, I feel 90% certain that I'm ready to be a mum, but there are moments when I suddenly panic and think 'Can I really do this? I've never changed a nappy in my life! What if I drop them? What if I do something wrong?' and so on. That little 10% of me that worries about every tiny thing prompted me to hunt down some of the parenting books on my Kindle. I didn't want to read one that advocated any particular parentin..more

This is the fourth and final parenting book I’m reading. (I can finally say I’m ready to raise children who will be the best of their generation. Yes, I know I had said I’m not having any, that’s exactly why I said that.)
I had a lot of 'seriously??' moments while reading the book. It’s true that most of it is helpful, but it has suggestions that are not really advisable. On some level, they can be a bad influence (allowing children to swear when they're old enough..?) or basically a joke. How..more

This is not the sort of book I normally choose to read and it came into my hands as a gift from a well-meaning acquaintance. Not long before that, however, I had become (somewhat more suddenly than expected) the father of two adopted girls, so I decided to give it a try.
My first impression was that Templar had nothing to say that I hadn't heard or read before. Now that I've finished the book - well, to be honest, I skipped the sections on teenagers and adult children for now - that still seems t..more

The title just says it all. Very simple and very clear. The book discusses 100 rules for parents, each role is explained solo, has its own title and a main point sentence. It is a true treasure for parents who are expecting or have children already. Its a guideline which are necessary and basics.

Follows many of the common sense ideas many parents don't always seem to know, but should. Also very well laid out and great reminders for those of us that get caught up in difficult details of every day life parenting.

For me this reads like Polonius' multi-faceted and contradictory advice to Ophelia. I cannot imagine that I could process all the micro-points into a useful and cohesive whole.
It's in the box for the next public library book sale.

More quotes…
